A day in your life as a Merchant Sales Officer:

Under the direction of the Manager, this position is responsible for expanding the merchant portfolio and increasing fee income by acquiring new business through sales calls, responding to sales referrals, new account promotions, etc.  This position serves as the primary Merchant Services representative for product sales presentations and servicing support. If applicable or appropriate, assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.

 

We’ll give you these important responsibilities…

  • Identifies and solicits by calling on eligible business prospects.  Makes cold calls and canvases potential customers.  Writes up all prospects calls.  Responsible for preparation and delivery of proposals and sales presentations.  Negotiates pricing, prepares proposals, and maintains term contracts.  Uses and understands the pricing model to analyze merchant volume for rates and profitability. Meets with prospects to analyze business needs and provide effective credit card processing solutions.
  • Establishes, maintains and expands profitable merchant relationships.   Maintains in depth knowledge of credit card brands (Visa, MasterCard, Diners, Amex, etc.) rules and regulations.
  • Collects all needed information, reviews, quality controls and processes new and additional account applications in compliance of department processes and procedures. Makes decisions to decline a new application if business does not meet the credit criteria and there is no rationale for an exception.  Requests pricing exceptions when needed.
  • Ensures that all merchants register, complete and maintain PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance.
  • Visits assigned branches, meets with and accompanies Branch Managers/Calling Officers on joint calls. Answers inquires and provides support to customers and branches with problems, complaints and product information.

 

 


Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years post high school education or equivalent work experience preferred.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum three years related experience with customer service and/or sales responsibilities. 
  • Must have knowledge of the bankcard industry. 

 

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers in a networked environment, and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) or similar software. 
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software, systems and equipment, including electronic draft capture terminal and printer.

 

Other Job Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills. 
  • Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized. 
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. 
  • Should have product knowledge, sales and negotiation skills.   
  • Must have proven customer service and interpersonal skills. 
  • Requires working knowledge of credit policy.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned. 
  • Able to provide own transportation or to operate a vehicle with a valid driver’s license, and ability to commute as required. 
  • Travels by air as required.
