A day in your life as a Strategic Real Estate Planning Manager

Under the direction of the Corporate Real Estate & Facilities (CREFD) Department Manager, the Strategic Real Estate Planning Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of critical real estate projects within the portfolio of assets owned or leased by Bank of Hawaii Corporation (BOHC) and its subsidiaries. If applicable or appropriate, assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS discipline and behaviors.


We’ll give you these important responsibilities…

  • Responsible for the planning, internal underwriting and execution of strategic real estate transactions within the BOHC portfolio of leased and owned properties throughout the State of Hawaii, Guam, Saipan, Palau and American Samoa. Oversees and manages the collaboration of key business units to ensure that stakeholder input is evaluated and incorporated into for each project. Performs financial analysis and drafts recommendations for key strategic real estate projects. 
  • Under the supervision of the CREFD Manager, develops the annual strategic plan for all BOHC corporate real estate assets.  Establishes metrics and other consistent measures by which to evaluate Bank’s own real estate holdings. Regularly presents current strategic plan to, and actively discusses specific real estate options with, executive management.  Performs analysis and takes lead on assigned projects.
  • Manages the execution of select strategic real estate projects. This includes ordering, overseeing and reviewing third party appraisals, title reports, environmental assessments, surveys and other necessary reports to conclude the transaction.  Oversees the documentation process and escrow procedures. Works in conjunction with the Corporate Facilities Department (CFD) Accounting Manager to oversee the reconciliation and processing of all funds related to the transaction.  Ensures appropriate departments are notified.
  • Coordinates with the Bank's legal, risk management, branch administration and other related staffs to determine the appropriate position for the Bank to take in negotiations. Formulates and prepares financial justification for assigned projects.  Reviews all leases and other property documents for accuracy, completeness and acceptability prior to Bank signature.  Tracks documents through execution and recordation.  Serves as the advocate for all Bank of Hawaii property users.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience. 
  • MBA preferred.



  • Minimum 7 years comprehensive commercial real estate experience, project management and/or other relevant business experience.
  • Knowledge of budgets and accounting and ability to evaluate income and expense statements. 


Technical Skills:   

  • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) or similar software.
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems


Other Job Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of management.
  • Possess strong analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Self-starter who requires minimal supervision with the ability to work across multiple departments and divisions.
  • Effectively communicates ideas to a variety of audiences, and works with the team to prioritize the needs of the overall institution.
  • Strong project management skills. Must be able to provide own transportation and ability to commute as required. 
  • Travels by air as required.
